What is CoolSculpting?
Fat is an age-old problem that only gets harder to fight with age. When we’re young, the weight seems to melt away easily. But as the years and the pounds add up, no matter how many diets you try or sweaty fitness classes you take, the bulge doesn’t seem to budge. While maintaining a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise can help you get trim and toned, certain areas of the body that tend to bother us most—like the thighs, belly and those embarrassing love handles!—simply refuse to change. But today, you can get rid of that unwanted fat by treating yourself to CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure, technically known as criolipolysis, that freezes and eliminates unwanted body fat for natural-looking results. Each treatment takes less than hour and there’s no need for lengthy recovery time. CoolSculpting is the only FDA-approved treatment for the removal of excess fat from a wide variety of areas from head to toe, including the stomach and abdomen, thighs, upper arms, bra bulge, love handles, back, beneath the buttocks, under the chin and the male chest.
While CoolSculpting is certainly a breakthrough, and to many it’s a blessing, it’s just as important to know what CoolSculpting is not. It is not an instant weight loss solution, but rather a fat-reduction technique that targets those fat deposits that have been resistant to diet and exercise. It is also not a procedure that can be performed at home. Only a certified professional that is highly-trained in the patented technique can safely and effectively target the stubborn fat cells in the areas that concern you. In addition, it’s not a one-size-fits-all treatment. CoolSculpting is truly an art form that demands years of experience and the aesthetic eye of an expert in body contouring to achieve the results you desire.
How does CoolSculpting work?
CoolSculpting is a safe and proven technique that uses freezing temperatures to gently break down and remove unwanted fat cells beneath the skin. During treatment, you lie down, and a protective gel pad is placed over your skin. Then, a special paddle is used to cool fat cells to a freezing temperature that leaves them completely damaged. This causes the fat cells to eventually die and be naturally eliminated by the body. Once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
The procedure takes less than an hour and there’s very little discomfort. Many feel comfortable enough during their CoolSculpting treatment to read, listen to music, watch TV or take a nap.
After your CoolSculpting procedure, there’s minimal recovery time. Most people are able to walk out of the office and resume their normal activities. If you experience any swelling or soreness, be assured that it’s completely normal. In fact, many choose to simply rest and relax for the remainder of the day.
The first step to improving your appearance with CoolSculpting is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gallo. This consultation will allow you to discuss your goals, review your challenges and determine whether CoolSculpting is right for you.
What results can I expect from CoolSculpting?
Science is as much of a fan of CoolSculpting as its satisfied patients. Studies show that CoolSculpting can create up to a 25% reduction in fat cell volume after a single session. In addition, more than 75% of patients showed a noticeable improvement in skin laxity within one to three months.
Based on the amount of fat and the area being targeted, you may see subtle improvements after your first treatment, while others may need a few treatments to ultimately reach their goals. Most people start noticing a difference in as little as four weeks, with the most dramatic results appearing after two months. Yet your body may continue to naturally eliminate the frozen fat cells for up to six months after treatment.
Be aware that CoolSculpting results are permanent as long as you don’t gain weight. To help you maintain a healthy weight after your procedure, follow a balanced diet and regular exercise routine. If you happen to gain weight after your CoolSculpting treatment, be assured that the fat should be more evenly distributed over the body instead of gathering in the treated areas.
Dr. Gallo will work with you to customize an appropriate maintenance schedule and determine the number of CoolSculpting treatments you will need to achieve your desired results
